In Stock! Here is a somewhat rare one, a Yamaha U30, a Japan only variant of the legendary U3. Essentially a hot-rodded U3 with slightly different cabinetry, longer strings and softer hammers that give it a darker, richer tone than a standard U3 and they are highly sought after for this very reason. With its powerful bass, singing treble, and sensitive keyboard, this piano will not only serve your student's needs (and will put a big grin on your teacher's face) but will satisfy much more advanced pianists as well.
The Yamaha U series pianos are requested by more teachers shopping with their students than all other pianos combined. Completely built in Japan, it is a whopping 52" in height and is finished in gleaming ebony polish with nary a mark on it. Lean into it and it is loud and powerful as a cannon shot, back off and it sings with an angel's gossamer wings. This is the upright for someone who wants the richness and volume of a grand piano but just doesn't have the room for one. Recently back from our shop where it was detailed top to bottom, back to front and received a full regulation job from a top Yamaha technician, not just a quick tuning like so many other places. Clean as a whistle both inside and out, the keys have been polished by hand and the finish gleams like new. Includes a brand-new adjustable artist bench. Very rare and hard to find in this kind of condition, it is one big, bad tone monster. NOT for the faint of heart!!
Background
To call the Yamaha U30 Upright Piano popular would be an understatement; they're so renowned that people ask for them by name. Finished in sleek black gloss and containing Yamaha's characteristic responsive and reliable action, teachers, pianists, and regular players alike wish to test out the Yamaha U30.
The rare combination of dynamic response and unparalleled consistency mark it as a unique piano – like a stallion bred with a workhorse.
Featured as part of the "U series," at 52-inches, it is the biggest of the selection. Yet, despite all of its incredible benefits, the Yamaha U30 piano remains eminently affordable and suitable for both professional and domestic settings.
Specifications
For the U series, Yamaha went back to the drawing board. Its action delivers a rich tone; experienced players will notice every graduation of dynamic response at their fingers. How much pressure you give and the sound you release is all down to you.
The Yamaha U30's hammers were also redesigned to optimize tone, which is clear yet conservative. The soundboard is cut from solid spruce and is larger than is typical for a piano of this size. When combined with the longer strings, it imbues the U30 with a powerful dynamic capacity and depth of tone.
The bridge and pinblock are constructed from hard maple, and a metal action rail is used – preventing alterations due to temperature or humidity.
History
The origins of Yamaha began in 1887 when a watchmaker named Torakusu Yamaha founded Japan's first reed organ company. After visiting the US in 1899, he learned how to build pianos, transporting back this knowledge to Japan. In the century or more since Yamaha grew into one of the most revered piano makers in the world. The popularity of the Yamaha U30 is a culmination of their efforts.
