Background

The Mason & Hamlin Upright Piano Model 50 is the height of modern elegance: distinctive tone, impeccable style, and a level of unrivaled durability. Handcrafted by Mason & Hamlin’s finest piano makers, it's a precision piano perfect for use in domestic and semi-professional settings.

For a company renowned for the heaviest, most robust upright pianos in the world, the Mason & Hamlin Upright Piano Model 50 is no exception. Using the strong hard rock maple frames, the Model 50 is the heaviest 50" upright piano in the world. Forget the competitors, like the Steinway K52; this is a piano that can withstand hours of strenuous playing: a piano for the generations.

Specifications

Like all great Mason & Hamlin pianos, it contains their exclusive Wessel, Nickel, and Gross Composite Actions; they've got three times the lifespan of their wooden counterparts. Even better, they're resistant to alterations in temperature or humidity, delivering the same unparalleled sound we've come to expect year round.

The soundboard is the beating heart of a piano; in the Mason & Hamlin Upright Piano Model 50, it's shaped from Eastern White Spruce, creating a sound that the makers themselves describe as "both sweet and powerful, melodic and thunderous." Part of the reason is the multi-radius crown that becomes stiffer for the high-frequency treble notes – that's precision piano-making.

In addition, the rim is made from flat-sawn hard rock maple, and the plate is sand cast gray iron. Overall, this is a strong, durable piano; indeed, the inclusion of a tension resonator helps preserve the piano's vibrancy, voice, and tone for generations to come.

History

Founded in 1854 by an ingenious mechanic and a brilliant pianist, Emmons Hamlin and Henry Mason, the company has been at the forefront of piano making ever since. After being acquired by the brothers, Gary and Kirk Burgett, they continued their level of excellence in the 3rd century of the company – the Mason & Hamlin Upright Piano Model 50 is a testament to that fact.
