Background
The Steinway M Grand Piano is beloved by generations for its versatility and impeccable quality. First introduced in 1911, it was nicknamed the "Small Grand," "Miniature Grand," and now "Studio Grand" due to its smaller size.
Harking from 1928, this original period piano was designed by Henry Ziegler. Between 1911 and 1917, the Steinway M was built slightly bigger, though the Model M remained the smallest piano in Steinway's collection until the Model S launched in 1935.
However, at 5'7", it's not the smallest grand piano around – and what it loses in size, the Steinway M's more than makes up for in rich tone and exquisite design. Better still, for those eager to play a Steinway at home, the Model M is ideal for living rooms or smaller music venues.
Specifications
Made according to Ziegler's specific designs, this grand piano contains a very responsive action and a full, rich tone. In fact, the resonant sound and incredible depth are renowned throughout the world's conservatories and music schools.
Internally, this 1927 model contains the original style of the soundboard before the "Diaphragmatic Soundboard" was patented in 1936. As such, you should expect a slightly different tone that you may expect from other examples of the Steinway M. However, considering Grammy award winner Carole King composed most of her hit songs on a 1924 Steinway Model M Grand Piano, you're sure to find the depth and breadth of sound you're after.
The hammers are made from Hornbeam, using premium wool felt, and the European spruce keys are durable and smooth to the touch.
