SOLD! Where to start with this one? Just back from being fully restored and only now coming into its own, this Steinway L grand piano produces the most beautiful tone, touch and control you could possibly imagine. Capable of roaring like thunder when pressed upon, it can also make the angels weep when played softly. For this very reason, many professional pianists choose this model for their "home" and/or practice piano. Finished in a lustrous ebony satin finish, it will be an object of extreme envy to your friends and a complete joy for you to play upon for many, many years to come. Lots of detailed cabinetry on the legs and polished nickel hardware set this one apart from most others. The new model is $103,500 but who wants to pay that! You really need to come over and play it to see what all the fuss is about. Coupling a majestic soundstage with a sumptuous level of finesse and bloom, it offers a musical experience that lingers in the ear long after the notes themselves have faded away. Includes a new adjustable top professional artist bench.

Background

Built in 1928, this piano harks back to the earlier days of piano making – though it's lost none of its splendor. The "L" in the Steinway L Grand Piano doesn't mean "large."

At 5'10.5" in length, the piano is at the upper end of what most domestic settings can accommodate. While it was dubbed the "living room grand," it contains the strength of sound for churches, music venues, and other smaller professional locations.

Despite being immensely popular with pianists, the Model L was discontinued in 2005, being replaced by the Model O. It was an odd turn of fortunes. Indeed, when the Model L, with its square tail, was first introduced in 1924, it replaced a rounded tail Model O! First produced in New York, from 1924 to 1984, production of the rims, soundboard, and plates were later shipped to a Hamburg factory.

Specifications

The Steinway L Grand Piano, as noted, has a square tail designed to accommodate the cast iron plate and soundboard, creating additional space at the rear. Like all of Steinway's smaller pianos, what it loses in size, it makes up for in power and quality of sound. The richness of the lower bass range, in particular, reaches new depths due to the elongation of the soundboard and strings.

For an artist's studio or living space, the lyrical singing tone is optimal and not overpowering. That's thanks to the additional space for the soundboard compared to the former Model O. In addition, the Model L contains cooling holes with a double raised lip.

When properly cared for and regulated, this renowned model produces as gorgeous a tone and sound as the day it was first made.
